looking for a new favorite art exhibit?

Now that we can virtually experience an exhibit and have the entire collection literally at our fingertips, children can learn to appreciate art at a younger age and develop creative thinking skills. Seriously, these exhibits blew our minds, and we can’t wait to share them with you so that you can share them with your kids. It’s interesting how art is truly everywhere and how it can translate to many different fields of study.

You can explore the museum itself or pick an exhibit. Simply click the play button and dive in.

Prepare to get transported once you enter their very cool space.

Here’s a description from their website: “Learning from Nature demonstrates how designers are finding sustainable solutions to human challenges by emulating nature’s time-tested patterns and strategies. The exhibition will invite all viewers to get involved in learning about biomimicry and designing based on ideas drawn from nature.”

We’ve also included a little teaser from the biomimicry exhibit below, check out how biomimicry reshaped Japan’s bullet train…

MoMA Audio Kids Collection

Museum of Modern Art

We chose MOMA for this exhibit section of our post not only because of their mind-blowing collection of art, but also for their enriching Audio Playlists for kids! Here’s a description from their website, “Explore art with audio for kids that encourages looking closely, poses questions, and shares information about MoMA’s collection. Available with your own device and headphones in English, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Español, Português, 한국어 (Korean), 日本語 (Japanese), and 中文 (Mandarin). For ages five and up.”

If you can visit MOMA in person, add it to your itinerary, if you can’t be there in person, visit virtually. Take advantage of a morning walk or drive to school while listening. There are over 15 playlists to choose from.

For example, let your child get lost in Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Take a listen and don’t forget to hit the play button.

If you loved that collection and have an auto enthusiast in the family, check out Automania: Kids.

MetKids!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s, MetKids! would make it onto any “Best Of” list. It’s an immersive experience for kids to explore The Met! Think Choose Your Own Adventure type of experience because it’s a time machine! The MetKids Time Machine Tab enables a child to program their own experience. Your child can choose from a time period, a place, or a big idea, then PRESS the big RED PUSH button and they’re off to explore!

Oh my gosh, your child could probably choose a destination every day and learn something new every single day. Once in the time machine, pick an object to learn about. There are FUN FACTS, historical tid bits, ways to imagine, and create – all based around that piece of art! I would say the age range is for 7 and above but with a parent or caregiver anyone younger could explore as well.

Andell Family Sundays

Los Angeles County Museum of Art

LACMA – The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has so much to offer children and their families from Andell Family Sundays, Boones Children’s Gallery to NexGenLA, but to stay focused we’re going to only highlight the Andell Family Sundays “exhibit”.

They have created such a special and unique way for children to experience their exhibits. The Andell Family Sundays program can be experienced by anyone all over the world if you have an internet connection. Families can join anytime from the LACMA YouTube Channel, and they drop live links to activities every Sunday @ 12:30 for families to “watch a performance, look at cool art, or make your own art in a workshop”.

Here is one of their videos inspired by star quilts in their collection. This is the premiere of “Quilt of Stars”. From the website: “Quilt of Stars is a heartwarming and magical story told through the art of shadow puppetry and inspired by star quilts in LACMA’s collection.”
