Honoring and celebrating Women’s History Month can be a spectacular experience, especially when we as parents can make it extra special. Supporting women owned book stores can be the beginning of a tradition, in which we make that short walk around the corner or a drive across town.
How Do You Celebrate Black History Month? We’ve searched far and wide for ways to honor our black history, from schools, libraries, small towns to big cities, online to virtual, and discovered so many opportunities. We’ve narrowed it down to our top 5 ways with a small sampling of our favorites.
I recently read an article on scholastic.com and the author quoted Albert Einstein “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.” I thought that was odd to quote him for this particular article but then read this by Ellen Booth Church: “Through activities with the arts, children learn to express the “mysterious” – their rapidly growing understandings, their thoughts, and their feelings.
Art is everywhere. We’ve picked enriching entertainment content for your creative child. The Children’s Museum of Art has a YouTube channel full of fun and colorful entertainment and activities related to art. We’ve also decided to spotlight a music episode from the “Ask the StoryBots” series on Netflix. Keep scrolling for content from the Louvre Kids and Tate Kids. We hope your child loves to learn more about art and music!
There is nothing like looking through a book about art to spark the imagination. If you or your child need creativity inspiration, these books are sure to inspire the artist within.
Art and creativity are by their nature healing and meditative. We’ve chosen mediation and creative activities from the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, CA and PBS Kids which use art to inspire creativity and help our children’s mental well being.
Now that we can virtually experience an exhibit and have the entire collection literally at our fingertips, children can learn to appreciate art at a younger age and develop creative thinking skills. Seriously, these exhibits blew our minds, and we can’t wait to share them with you so that you can share them with your kids. It’s interesting how art is truly everywhere and how it can translate to many different fields of study.
There is nothing more exciting than discovering new artists for children and adults alike. We would like to share five of our favorite artists of all disciplines that are sure to spark the imagination of your child. We feature Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and her dots, Mexican artist Pedro Linares and his Alebrijes, American Illustrator Sam Wedelich and her illustrations, Charles Schulz and his comics and Joan Miro and his animals.
In honor of the holidays and in hopes of bringing our families and community closer, we’ve curated this list of Cultural Holiday Traditions. What better way to get to know a culture than through its songs, food, books and, of course, traditions.
