need a little inspiration? rejuvenate with art & meditation!

Art and creativity are by their nature healing and meditative. We’ve chosen mediation and creative activities from the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, CA and PBS Kids which use art to inspire creativity and help our children’s mental well-being.

meditation at the Norton Simon Museum

The Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, CA, offers an online meditation series called Meditative Moments. This calming and peaceful program will appeal to older children and adults alike. Perhaps you and your child can take a minute to look at a painting and meditate together.

From the website: These online Meditative Moments were created as a way to contemplate and interact with art on a deeper level and to provide a sense of solace at home. In this short video, Manager of Youth and Family Programs Mariko Tu introduces viewers to techniques to enhance these meditative experiences, and leads a short breathing and looking exercise on Kandinsky’s Heavy Circles, bringing a sense of calm to your mind and body.

Our favorites are: “Color Meditation“, a look at Helen Frankenthaler’s painting Adriatic from 1969 and “Interconnectedness Meditation” which looks at Ruth Asawa’s artwork called Desert Plant from 1965.
